“…ASL (11, 12), either by inversion or by saturation of water in the arterial blood, has been applied previously for the study of perfusion in a number of organs, particularly in the brain (13–15) and the kidney (16–18). ASL based on steady‐state, slice‐selective pulsed saturation similar to that applied here, was reported previously by us, for measurement of perfusion in the rat ovary (19, 20).…”

“…To minimize the risk of quantitation bias, we prefer to apply, when possible, whole body radio-frequency excitation and let blood magnetization recover between scans. (33,45,58,78,84), lungs (42,43), ovaries (67,68), and testis (53).…”

“…The diffusion coefficient of follicular fluid decreased at 4 h after hCG injection following PMSG priming and subsequently increased at 7 to 11 h after hCG injection. T1 relaxation time of follicular fluid estimated in another study was 0.8 sec at 4.7 tesla and 1.6 sec at 9.4 T, and did not change from 3 to 9 h after hCG stimulation [14]. It is possible that T1 and T2 relaxation times of maturing follicles in rat ovaries do not undergo evident changes in mass, although the concentration of each constituent and thereby viscosity and diffusion of the follicular fluid changes.…”

“…Also, it was reported that physiological status of follicles in bovine ovaries can be differentiated by MRI using a 1.5 tesla magnet in vitro [12]. In rats, NMR microscopic examination of large antral follicles excised from ovaries was reported by Tempel et al [13,14]. They also examined perfusion in rat ovaries by spin labeling in vivo [14,15] using immature rats treated with PMSG and hCG to induce follicle maturation.…”
