Abstract:This paper tackles the relations of Spanish Orientalism with Modern Arabic Literature. First, it deals with the general characteristics of the field of Arabic and Islamic Studies in Spain. Then it addresses how Modern Arabic Literature has been taught and translated at Spanish universities, and what kind of research has been done. Finally approaches the impact of the Nobel Prize in Literature awarded to Naguib Mahfuz in 1988 and the current state of the field.
