Space Vectors Modulation for Nine-Switch Converters

Abstract: Recently, nine-switch inverter and nine-switch-zsource inverter have been proposed as dual output inverters. In this paper, the space vector modulation (SVM) of nine-switch inverter and nine-switch-z-source inverter is proposed. The proposed method increases the sum of modulation indices up to 15% in contrast with the conventional, scheme in which the sum of modulation indices is equal or less than one. The extra voltage available for a given input dc-voltage, translates to a higher torque-a critical factor fo… Show more

“…These vectors compute the turn-on and turn-off states of each switch; the sectors or subsectors find the switching sequences and increase the n-level of the power inverter, which requires a microprocessor and complex algorithms. The limitation of SVM is that it needs a considerable amount of time to carry out fundamental calculations, thereby causing delays in the process [186]. To overcome this problem, a large value of system reactive components and advanced deadbeat control are used [187].…”

“…The impracticality of this forbidden switching state is responsible for the limitations on the amplitudes and/or phase shifts and/or frequencies of the upper and lower outputs of nine-switch converter, which is discussed in detail in [23]- [26].…”

“…Before proceeding on to Sections IV-A and IV-B on higher level control, it is fair to comment here that a similar modulation scheme can be found in [21], whose derivation is oriented more toward the space vector approach. Surely, the space vector domain can be insightful, but it also needlessly complicates the modulation process, and does not bring out the clamping patterns between the two references per phase as clearly as the carrier-based approach.…”
