Space/time global/local noninvasive coupling strategy: Application to viscoplastic structures

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to extend the non-invasive global/local iterative coupling technique [15] to the case of large structures undergoing nonlinear time-dependent evolutions at all scales. It appears that, due to the use of legacy codes, the use of different time grids at the global and local levels is mandatory in order to reach a satisfying level of precision. In this paper two strategies are proposed and compared for elastoviscoplastic models. The questions of the precision and performance of those s… Show more

“…The nonlinear global/local non-invasive coupling proposed in [2] is used in order to insert structural details given by local models into the global coarse representation of the whole structure, see Figure 1. Thanks to an iterative coupling the solution obtained by the separate models converges toward the reference.…”

“…The global and local models do not need the same type steps to achieve the same precision. To handle this issue, we proposed in [2] a space/time global/local non-invasive coupling strategy that we try to extend to cycle-jumping.…”

“…Those parts often correspond to very fine structural details that can not be taken into account in the global mesh of the structure, details which in turns can induce nonlinearity such as plasticity, visco-plasticity or damage. A typical example is presented in Figure 1 where one can see that a proper description of the local parts may require meshes larger than the mesh used for the global model Blanchard et al (2019).…”

“…The global/local framework has been generalized to a domain decomposition method with a complete covering local model [3]. This method has been applied on various types of non-linearities such as: crack propagation [13,3], structural joints and assemblies [10], local plasticity [7], cycling visco-elastic behavior [1]. Others studies for different applications and improvements for the local global method and non-intrusive analysis can be found in [11,6,8,9,2].…”
