Space Propulsion Technology for Small Spacecraft

Abstract: Abstract-As small satellites become more popular and capable, strategies to provide in-space propulsion increase in importance. Applications range from orbital changes and maintenance, attitude control and desaturation of reaction wheels to drag compensation and de-orbit at spacecraft end-of-life. Space propulsion can be enabled by chemical or electric means, each having different performance and scalability properties. The purpose of this review is to describe the working principles of space propulsion techno… Show more

“…In addition, the magnitude of the acceleration vector is assumed to vary between f min 3 × 10 −5 m∕s 2 and f max 3 × 10 −4 m∕s 2 . Considering a mass of 100 kg for both spacecraft, the preceding acceleration values are compatible with different classes of lowthrust propulsion system, ranging from Hall-effect propulsion system to radio-frequency ion thrusters [35,36]. Moreover, the deputy onboard thrusters are oriented in such a way to guarantee a thrust along both directions of all axes of RTN reference frame.…”

Therefore, the documents were discriminated by year of publication, in order to differentiate the largest number of documents in the last 5 years.…”
