Space infrared tracking of a hypersonic cruise vehicle using an adaptive scaling UKF

Abstract: To perform surveillance of a hypersonic cruise vehicle (HCV), space-based infrared system is a reliable and feasible means, which has been putting on the schedule for providing positioning and tracking information of the high-altitude unmanned vehicles. In this paper, a space-based HCV tracking method based on infrared satellite constellation is proposed. The method contains three main parts: constellation coverage analysis, a bearing-only positioning algorithm, and a tracking algorithm. For target tracking, a… Show more

“…Target tracking refers to the use of various sensors, such as infrared, radar, and laser, to detect moving targets and deal with their echoes to obtain state information, such as target position and velocity. With the development of modern aviation, navigation, and aerospace industries, target tracking has received increasing attention and has become a very active research field (Liu et al, 2020; Wu et al, 2021). The target tracking has been widely applied in both civilian and military fields.…”

“…However, it is prone to divergence problems in situations where nonlinearity is strong and the amount of data is limited. Therefore, the Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) [15,16] and the Cubature Kalman Filter (CKF) [17,18] have been proposed. Huang et al introduced the variance statistical function in UKF to calculate the residual weight in real time, which improved the sensitivity of the system to target maneuvering [19].…”
