Abstract:The intense voltage spikes of about 10 I-ls width in high voltage direct current (dc) axial discharges, particularly, in continuous wave (cw) CO 2 laser systems, are analyzed by a bound plasma model subject to external circuit constraint. The spikes, whose amplitude grows from cathode to anode, are believed to be a manifestation of the convective space-charge instability of the ion acoustic plasma-circuit mode.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
