In sy MA-verhandeling, getiteld Tempo rality and the past: Recollections of Apartheid in selected South African novels in English [Tydelikheid en die verlede: Herinneringe aan apartheid in 'n keur van Engelse Suid-Afrikaanse romans] het hy ondersoek hoe narratiewe strategieë gebruik is om die ervarings van kinderprotagoniste in die romans van K. Sello Duiker, Jo-Anne Richards, Maxine Case en Mark Behr weer te gee. Andile is ook, saam met Marisa Keuris, betrokke by 'n departementele argiefprojek, getiteld Die SuidAfrikaanse Drama en Teater bewaringsprojek, wat handel oor die bewaring van tekste, teaterprogramme en verwante materiaal. Hy is tans besig met sy dok torale studie, getiteld Recovered plays: Collective memory and the construction of historical narrative of selected Sowetobased community theatre plays 19841994 [Herwonne dramas: Kollektiewe herinnering en die konstruksie van die historiese narratief van 'n keur uit Sowetogebaseerde gemeenskapsteaterdramas, 1984-1994]. Die studie ontleed die dramas van Gibson Kente, Matsemela Manaka en Maishe Maponya om sodoende 'n raamwerk te verskaf vir 'n bespreking oor kollektiewe herinneringe en die invloed daarvan op die herwinning van 'n kulturele geskiedenis vir Soweto in daardie tydperk. Andile XAbA is a lecturer in the Department of Afrikaans and Theory of Literature at Unisa. His MA dissertation is entitled Temporality and the past: Recollections of apartheid in selected South African novels in English. The study investigates the way in which narrative strategies are employed to give an account of child protagonists in the novels of K. Sello Duiker, Jo-Anne Richards, Maxine Case and Mark Behr. Andile is also involved with Marisa Keuris on a departmental archival project, entitled The South African Drama and Theatre Heritage Project, which is concerned with the preservation of scripts, theatre programmes and related materials. He is currently writing his doctoral study,entitled Recovered plays: Collective memory and the construction of historical narrative of selected Sowetobased community theatre plays, 19841994. It analyses the plays of Gibson Kente, Matsemela Manaka and Maishe Maponya to frame a discussion on collective memory and its relation to recovering the cultural history of the township.
