SORPTION REMOVAL OF Sr2+ AND Y3+ IONS FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS BY A TiO2 -BASED SORBENT

Abstract: In present investigations, the sorption removal of Sr 2+ and Y 3+ ions from aqueous solutions by TiO2 -La sorbent was researched. The dependence of the sorption process on the time of interaction, solution's acidity, and initial concentrations of the Sr 2+ and Y 3+ ions were investigated. Four simplified kinetic models -Lagergren's pseudofirst and pseudo-second order kinetic models, Intra-particle diffusion and Elovich models -were tested to describe the adsorption process. Equilibrium isotherms data were anal… Show more

“…Scheme of the experiment of separation of strontium, yttrium and zirconium ions and subsequent ICP-MS analysis. neutral or alkaline environment, the adsorption of strontium ions by these adsorbents is extremely intense [9][10][11][12][13][14]. Ionic radius of Zr 4+ is smaller than the corresponding value of Sr 2+ or Y 3+ (0.84 Å compared to 1.02 Å for Y 3+ and 1.26 Å for Sr 2+ ions) [26].…”

“…Adsorbents based on mesoporous TiO2 showed high adsorption activity toward many cations, such as strontium, barium, zinc, cobalt, and yttrium [9][10][11][12][13][14][15]. The uniqueness of the properties of adsorbents based on mesoporous TiO2 is due to the developed surface area and a large number of adsorption centers on it in combination with the predominantly crystalline structure of TiO2.…”

“…In addition to Diffusion kinetic model, for example, intra particle diffusion -the limiting step of sorption is the diffusion stage of Sr 2+ from solution to the surface of sorbent. Diffusion in micro porous carries the character of activated diffusion, which usually is described by Weber and Morris [4][5][6]. The experimental data is the plot in coordinate A t vs t ½ .…”
