“…The first reported method that employed PUFs for absorption was published 50 years ago by Bowen, but it was not until the 1990s that the use of PUFs in sample preparation procedures started to become more popular [ 20 ]. From that time onward and especially in the next two decades from 1990 to 2010, PUFs were used for the preconcentration of common metal species, such as iron [ 21 , 22 ], copper [ 23 ], zinc [ 6 ], and nickel [ 24 ], and rare metals, such as germanium [ 4 ], thorium [ 25 ], thallium [ 26 ], and uranium [ 27 ] from aqueous matrices.
