Sophorolipids production from rice straw via SO3 micro-thermal explosion by Wickerhamiella domercqiae var. sophorolipid CGMCC 1576

Abstract: A novel lignocellulose material, holocellulose from rice straw via the pretreatment of SO3 micro-thermal explosion, was developed to produce sophorolipids (SLs) with Wickerhamiella domercqiae var. sophorolipid CGMCC 1576. The influence factors of inoculum dose, yeast extract concentration and pH regulators (chemical regents used for adjusting/influencing pH) was investigated and discussed. Results showed that W. domercqiae can grow in the rice straw holocellulose hydrolysate, and acquire relative high SL yield… Show more

“…In addition to S. bombicola, other species in the W/S clade also produce sophorolipids, like S. apicola (Kurtzman, Price, Ray, & Kuo, 2010), S. floricola (Konishi et al, 2017), S. riodocensis, S. stellata (Kurtzman et al, 2010) and W. domercqiae (Liu, Ma, Yao, Pan, & He, 2016;Ma, Li, Shao, Shen, & Song, 2011;Ma, Li, & Song, 2012) but so far without the industrial impact reached by S. bombicola.…”

“…Several other papers were published about the effects of different factors on the SL production with this species (Li et al, 2013(Li et al, , 2012Liu et al, 2016). However, in the beginning of 2016, strain W. domercqiae Y2A CGMCC 3798, reported in the articles and patent, was reclassified as S. bombicola based on sequence analysis, meaning the conclusions apply to S. bombicola instead of W. domercqiae (Li et al, 2016).…”

“…As shown in Figure 2a, no lactonic SLs were produced when ammonium nitrate or peptone was used, although all three types of N sources improved cell growth (Figure 2a). This lack of SL production may have been due to the inhibition of lactonic SL production by inorganic N (i.e., ammonium nitrate) [16]. In fact, Yu et al successfully adopted ammonium nitrate as the N source to improve the total SLs production to 27.45 g L -1 which contained high ratio of acidic SL (i.e.…”
