“…All 21 patients experienced significant improvement in pain, general disability, and walking disability within 48-h post-treatment with average reduction on visual analog scale (VAS) of 48 mm (SD 27), 35 mm (SD 26), and 39 mm (SD 26), respectively. No adverse events occurred within the first 7 days post injection, the duration of the study [59].…”

“…Intra-articular steroid injections are recommended by both European League Against Rheumatism and the American College of Rheumatology for the treatment of gout [58,63]. They are often used when systemic steroids, colchicine, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are contraindicated [59]. The ACR recommends that dosing be based on the size of the affected joint [63].…”

“…Jalava and Saario compared triamcinolone hexacetonide with methylprednisolone injected into the IP joints and found superior patient‐reported clinical improvement with use of triamcinolone. Corticosteroid injection of the MTP joint demonstrated significant improvement in pain and function for up to 8 weeks . One of these studies was an RCT, which showed pain relief in the corticosteroid cohort, but it was inferior in functional measures to HA, at a borderline clinically significant level.…”

“…US guidance enables a more accurate and safe procedure. Ho Kang et al [60] reported their experience in 21 patients with acute gout attack involving the first metatarsophalangeal joint, unilaterally. US was more sensitive than CR in detecting erosion and tophuslike lesion.…”
