Sonochemical Synthesis of Copper-doped BiVO4/g-C3N4 Nanocomposite Materials for Photocatalytic Degradation of Bisphenol A under Simulated Sunlight Irradiation

Abstract: Copper-doped bismuth vanadate/graphitic carbon nitride (BiVO4/g-C3N4) nanocomposite materials were successfully fabricated using a sonochemical approach. Cu-doped BiVO4/g-C3N4 nanocomposite photocatalysts could improve electron/hole (e−/h+) pair separation, stability, and light-harvesting efficiency compared to pristine BiVO4 or g-C3N4, resulting in the enhancement of photocatalytic activity. The optimal parameters, such as pH value at 10, photocatalyst dosage of 0.4 g L−1, and 10 mol% Cu-doped BiVO4/g-C3N4 ph… Show more

“…Bisphenol A (BPA), as one of a well-known endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs), has become an environmental concern [1][2][3]. BPA can be lethal to humans or cause reproductive impairment, diabetes, neurological disorders, cardiovascular disease, and carcinogenic sensitivity [1,3]. BPA is usually used as the raw material for the preparation of epoxy resins, plastics, food containers, water pipes, toys, coatings, medical equipment, and electronics [4,5].…”

“…Cui et al, [15] synthesized the graphene oxide wrapped gold nanoparticles using the sonochemical method for the photocatalysis of rhodamine B. The graphene oxide wrapped gold nanoparticles were sonicated (200 W) for 1 h. It showed good photocatalytic activity under visible light and decompose rhodamine B in 2 h. Lee et al, [16] synthesized the copper-doped bismuth vanadate/graphitic carbon nitride nanocomposite using a sonochemical method. The reaction mixture was sonicated (700 W, 20 kHz) for 0.5 −1 h, and used the synthesized nanocomposite as a photocatalyst for the degradation of the Bisphenol A.…”

“…TiO 2 -coated carbon nitride layers as composites for enhanced photocatalytic activity is a more attractive approach. The g-C 3 N 4 is widely used in the degradation of organic pollutants and water splitting by visible light irradiation due to its strong visible light response, high thermal resistance and chemical stability [24][25][26][27]. g-C 3 N 4 /TiO 2 composites can not only transfer the photo-generated charge of g-C 3 N 4 to TiO 2 to increase its charge separation efficiency, but also reduce bandgap to increase its visible light absorption region [28][29][30].…”
