As características culturais da miscigenação do Vale do Taquari refletem um processo contínuo de agregação de conhecimento e troca de experiências dos seres humanos, sendo este um fator relevante no envelhecimento populacional da região. O objetivo deste estudo é conhecer o processo de envelhecimento de descendentes de imigrantes açorianos, alemães e italianos, residentes no Vale do Taquari/RS, Brasil. Caracteriza-se como uma pesquisa de campo, descritiva e exploratória com abordagem qualitativa, desenvolvida em 15 municípios do Vale do Taquari. Os resultados evidenciaram algumas necessidades sociais que estão sendo vivenciadas por idosos descendentes de imigrantes açorianos, alemães e italianos e também algumas dificuldades relativas às necessidades sociais dessa população. Essas vivências acontecem, em sua maioria, por meio de grupos de terceira idade, desenvolvidos nos próprios municípios de residência destes indivíduos. Os idosos também interagem por meio de encontros/visitas entre amigos em suas casas e encontros desenvolvidos por entidades religiosas ou grupos reservados de mulheres. Evidenciaram-se, ainda, algumas dificuldades, como a falta de infraestrutura necessária para abrigar as atividades desenvolvidas pelos grupos de terceira idade e demais incentivos físicos para este grupo populacional específico. O conhecimento das condições sociais de idosos é importante para melhorar a atenção à saúde dessa população com base em suas necessidades.
