This work aimed to use guar korma meal in concentrate feed mixture(CFM) for growing buffalo calves rations.The trial was carried out at Animal House of Animal production Research Institute and Al-Manar Company Station. Thirty male buffalo calves averaging 176.9 Kg LBW were chosen and divided into six similar groups. The groups of animals were randomly assigned to receive six experimental rations containing CFM which included guar Korma at the rate of 0, 3.3, 6.7, 10.0, 13.3 and 16.7% in rations A,B,C,D,E and F, respectively. These percentages of guar korma cover 0,10,20,30,40 and 50% of CFM protein content. All animals received CFM, berseem hay (BH) and wheat straw (WS) at the rate of 70:20:10, respectively.The feeding trial lasted 210 days, during which live body weights were recorded beside feed intake. Economical efficiencies were calculated for each ration. In addition, six digestibility trials were conducted to determine digestibility and nutritive values of the experimental rations. Samples of blood were taken to measure some blood parameters.The results obtained can be summarize as follows: 1) The chemical composition of different experimental rations were almost similar in DM, OM, CF,CP and NFE contents, with somewhat higher percentage of EE and Ash associated with increasing guar korma levels. 2) Increasing guar korma level in the experimental rations tended to significantly (P<0.05) increase DM, OM, CP,EE and CF digestibilities, while the difference in NFE digestibility was not statistically significant. In addition, there were significant (P<0.05) increase in TDN and DCP with increasing guar korma levels in the rations, especially in ration F, which had 70.82% TDN and 10.99% DCP. 3) Average total protein and albumin were significantly (P<0.05) higher for ration D,E, and F, while differences in globulin were not significant. Also, AST (Aspartate amino transferase) and ALT (Alanin amino transferase) concentrations significantly (P<0.05) increase for ration E and F, while differences in kidney functions parameters were not significant. 4) Average daily LBW gains significantly (P<0.05) increased with increasing guar korma levels in the rations, being 1.296,1.325,1.357,1.392,1.425 and 1.475 kg for animals given rations A,B,C,D, E and F, respectively. At the same time, the best improvement in feed utilization efficiency expressed as kg DM or TDN per kg gain was recorded for ration F which contain the highest level of guar korma, being 7.935 and 5.620, respectively. 5) Average feed cost/kg weight gain decreased with increasing guar korma levels in the rations, being 18. 870, 18.227, 17.429, 16.650, 15.822 and 15.249 LE with rations A, B, C, D,E and F, respectively. Twenty four Friesian cows at 2 nd lactating season with average live body weight (LBW) 383 Kg. Animals were randomly distributed into four similar groups (6 animal each), to be fed concentrate feed mixture (CFM) containing cotton seed cake or soybean meal or DDGS as a source of protein in rations B, C and D, respectively compared to that containing each of them in ration A as a control ration.Feeding trial lasted about 210 days and animals fed CFM, berseem hay and rice straw with rate of 60, 25 and 15% respectively. These proportions were chosen to achieve approximately isonitrogenous rations containing a bout 13 % CP. The results obtained showed that digestibility coefficient of OM,CP,EE and NFE for ration D (containing DDGS) showed significant (P<0.05) higher than the others, while differences in DM and CF digestibility were higher significant (P<0.05) with feeding on ration C than A or B but without significant effect with ration D. Feeding values for ration D expressed as TDN (%), DCP (%), DE and ME (M cal / Kg DM) were significant (P<0.05) higher than the other rations. Ration D containing DDGS tended to significant (P<0.05) increased for both actual milk (9.028 kg) and 4% FCM yield (8.906 kg) and improved milk composition and their yields than rations A and B. Feed efficiency as kg DM/Kg actual milk or kg 4% FCM yields was the best with ration D, than the other rations. Ration D showed the cheapest feed cost to get one kg actual milk (2.072 LE) or kg 4% FCM yield (2.100 LE). Also, ration D gave the highest net revenue (35.464 LE) and economical efficiency (1.90). The mean values of the NH 3-N, Total-N and NPN (mg/100ml) concentrations were significant (P<0.05) higher by feeding on ration D. Blood parameters showed that there were no adverse effects, however these parameters were within the normal values.

High performance of growing lambs grazing Paspalum notatum INIA Sepé with energy-protein supplement including sorghum-DDGS

Sorghum dried distillers’ grain with soluble (S-DDGS) has not been utilized as supplement in lamb growing and finishing diets under grazing conditions in summer. The hypothesis was that the performance of post-weaning lambs grazing Paspalum notatum (PN) INIA Sepé supplemented with an energy-protein diet (whole sorghum grain [SG], and soybean meal [SM]) is not reduced by the inclusion of 40% S-DDGS. During 82 days, in summer, 42 Merino Dohne male lambs (130 ± 7.6 days of age, 32 ± 2.4 kg of body weight [BW], and 2.2 ± 0.2 body condition score [BCS]) were evaluated, in a completely random experimental design with three treatments and two replicates each (n = 14 each one). All lambs grazed PN INIA Sepé and in two treatments they were daily supplemented (1.7% BW) with different components. The treatments were: PN (control group, no supplementation), SGSM (70% SG, 30% SM) and DDGS (45% SG, 40% S-DDGS, and 15% SM). Supplemented lambs had higher (P<0.0001) body weight gain (BWG), final BW and wool growth (140 and 126 g/a/d, 43.5 and 42.4 kg; 1814 and 1892 µg/cm2/d for DDGS and SGSM, respectively) than control lambs (40 g/a/d; 35.5 kg; 1353 µg/cm2/d) (P<0.0001), without differences between supplemented groups. Gastrointestinal nematodes infestation (GIN) was affected by the treatments on day 69, where supplemented animals showed lower infestation levels than control lambs (P=0.0024). The inclusion of S-DDGS in the supplement did not reduce the productive performance of the lambs when the concentration of crude protein and energy remained constant.
