Some reactions of trimeric silicon phthalocyanine under alkaline conditions

Abstract: The reaction of bis(trimethylsiloxy)triphthalocyaninatosilicon, Me 3 Si ( OSiPc )3 OSiMe 3 ( Pc 3) with KOH in o-xylene in the presence of 15-crown-5 in vacuum at 200°C has been studied by means of UV-vis, EPR and 1 H NMR spectroscopy. Upon gradual removal of H 2 O , the formation of mono- and dianions of Pc 3 with absorption bands positioned at 575-590 nm was observed. An EPR spectroscopic study revealed that both monoanionic and dianionic of Pc 3 are paramagnetic in solution. 1 H NMR spectra have shown the a… Show more

“…The results of this work on the presence and strength of inter-ring LDIs in cofacial, bridged aromatic systems are of interest to other studies on such systems. They are, for example, relevant to studies of the thermal stability and electronic spectra ,− of such systems. Other studies for which knowledge of these LDI’s is pertinent are Raman, NMR, ,− ,, X-ray photoelectron, ,, nonlinear optical, , electrochemical, ,, and photoelectrochemical spectra studies. , In addition, they are of importance to studies of the conductivity of doped cofacial aromatic systems. ,, …”

“…In these, the terminating ligands are relatively large and confer the valuable practical property of solubility. Since then, we and others have synthesized various analogues of these symmetrical, large-ligand terminated sets and have subjected members of them and the earlier sets to a study by a number of techniques, including reaction chemistry; ,, thermal stability; mass, , infrared, ,, NMR, UV–vis, , Raman, UV-, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopies; ,, cyclic voltammetry; ,, photoelectrochemistry; , nonlinear optics; , and excited-state techniques. In addition, we and others have done theoretical studies on some of these and on related hypothetical sets. ,,, …”
