O objetivo da educação executiva responsável é capacitar os estudantes para serem futuros geradores de valor sustentável para os negócios e a sociedade em geral. Nesse sentido, as escolas de negócios precisam promover uma visão de gestão sustentável associada ao escopo de estudo do aluno. Com base nesse alinhamento, esta pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar a efetividade de uma disciplina de capacitação em sustentabilidade, criada pelo ISAE Brazilian Business School, na conscientização e promoção de uma reflexão sobre gestão sustentável para estudantes executivos de diferentes áreas do conhecimento. Com base na resposta dos estudantes aos questionários aplicados antes e após cada aula, esta análise procura mensurar o nível de conhecimento adquirido pelos participantes, refletindo sobre a contribuição social este tipo de iniciativa. Os resultados demonstram uma curva de crescimento significativa no processo de aprendizagem, representando um impacto positivo que permite aos pesquisadores inferir que o “Seminário de Contextualização” tem uma contribuição importante para conscientizar os líderes em busca de um mundo mais sustentável.

Education for Sustainable Development: Evolution and Perspectives: A Bibliometric Review of Research, 1992–2018

In recent years, the interest in research concerning Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) has grown considerably. Therefore, a thorough (re)evaluation of this field and its challenges is highly necessary and can help us better understand the diversity of ESD approaches and the ways in which various scholars, countries, institutions, or universities reacted through research and scientific publications to the study of ESD. Using a bibliometric approach, we analyzed 1813 papers on the subject, indexed by the Web of Science, between 1992 and 2018. The main findings increased our understanding of the ESD domain: we identified vital research, landmark studies in the development of the field, critical past contributions, emerging trends, and potentially transformative ideas. The number of publications, authors, and journals has increased, proving that ESD has gained momentum over the period examined in the study. Similarly, there are more and more works written in collaboration by people (scholars, researchers, etc.) from different parts and cultures of the world, indicating that publishing on ESD is like a legacy to international efforts to bring this area of inquiry into the mainstream. Finally, the study illustrates two main research directions for the entire timespan: integration of education into sustainable development and of sustainable development into education.

In industrial engineering education the possibility links are not easy between renewal and sustainability processes, particularly when renewal is encouraged irrespective of sustainability. This paper aims to explore sustainability frameworks to better understand and improve the effectiveness of industrial engineering education change processes towards sustainability in universities .This work describes a sustainable process developed for the continuous improvement of a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (BSIE) program. The objective is to apply the results of the student outcome assessment and their evaluation to improve the program. The methodology taken in this work is implementation of a roadmap for sustainable development built around existing findings in literature, higher education case studies, and chosen sustainable development practices. Satisfaction of the various stakeholders was achieved and year-on-year improvement in the achievement of the student outcomes was observed by following the sustainable development roadmap. This study focuses on the sustainability of undergraduate industrial engineering programs only. The recommendations suggested at the end of each academic year are feasible and practical for implementation in the next year by all faculty and staff members in order to close the loop for a sustainable development cycle. The results of this study can be useful for transition from traditional IE education to applied IE Education. This work also describes how the concept of sustainability can be part of an IE department, adapting the philosophy of sustainable development.
