Some Methodological Considerations for the relationship between Environmental Degradation, Economic Growth and Energy Consumption for South Asian Countries

Abstract: The present study is designed to investigate that how Economic Growth (EG) of the South Asian region has affected the Environmental Degradation (ED) from 1980 to 2018. This study has used Newey and West (1987) robust standard errors approach to overcome the problem of autocorrelation and heteroskedasticity in panel data. The results of the statistical model confirmed the existence of the Inverted U-shaped Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC). Furthermore, the results also confirmed that the use of energy is also … Show more

“…Detecting CD's presence is crucial, leading to employing Pesaran CD and Pesaran Scaled LMS tests. The null hypothesis for these tests assumes no crosssectional dependence (Jadoon et al, 2022). After confirming CD, the study delves into unit root tests, selecting methods based on CD presence.…”

“…Insights from Boyd and Banzhaf (2007) regarding ecosystem services and Zhang and Cheng (2009) exploration of the relationship between energy consumption, carbon emissions, and economic growth contribute significantly to the ongoing discourse. Recent studies, such as those by Jadoon et al (2022) and Al-Kasasbeh et al (2023), provide empirical evidence on the nexus between environmental degradation, economic growth, and the pivotal role of renewable energy consumption.…”

“…The results showed an inverted U-shape relationship between national income and pollution (Carbon Dioxide (CO 2 )). Later, many researchers found the various shape of the relationship between national income and pollution, i.e., linear upward sloping (Ardakani and Seyedaliakbar, 2019;Azomahou et al, 2006), inverted U-Shaped (Jadoon et al, 2021;Jadoon et al, 2022;Mahmood et al, 2019;Shahbaz et al, 2017), U-Shaped (Eyup and Roula, 2020), and N-Shaped (Lorente and Alvarez-Herranz, 2016). In another theory of growth environment relationship, namely the Porter Hypothesis (PH), Michel Porter (1991) postulates that strict environmental regulation can increase efficiency and innovation, increasing commercial competitiveness and improving the environment.…”
