Some features of backscattering in a reflective layer with multiscale random irregularities
Mikhail V. Tinin
Abstract:Using previously derived formulas describing wave reflection and scattering in a reflective multiscale inhomogeneous layer, we examine the effect of random irregularities on the sounding signal structure. It is shown that, unlike scattering in a homogeneous medium, scattering by small-scale irregularities in a plane-stratified medium depends on the location of these irregularities relative to the reflection point. This largely determines the scattered pulse structure and the applicability of the geometrical op… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
