Some Comparative Immunohistochemical Studies on the Ductus Deferens in the Donkey (Equus asinus) and Water Buffalo Bull (Bubalus bubalis).

Abstract: The current work aimed to apply immunohistochemistry (IHC) to evaluate the differential distribution pattern of some biologically active proteins in the ductus deferens (DD) in two different animal species common in the Egyptian farms. Immunolocalization of S100, angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE), αsmooth muscle actin (α-SMA), connexin 43 (Cx43) and galactosyltransferase (GalTase) was practiced on paraffinembedded sections of DD from clinically healthy adult five donkeys and five water buffalo bulls. The DD,… Show more

“…On the other hand (15) has observed autonomic ganglion in adventitia of goat. Meanwhile (14) in bull and jackass noticed three layers in tunica muscularis (Inner longitudinal, middle and outer layers), also the epithelium height of ampulla in tomcat was lower than that recorded in the bull (64±10μm) and in jackass (21± 4μm).…”

“…The current result was in contrast with (12, 15 and 16) who recorded that the tunica mucosa was lined by pseudo stratified columnar epithelium. Meanwhile (14) in bull and jackass recorded tall columnar pseudo stratified epithelium in bull, and high simple cuboidal epithelium in jackass. The tunica muscularis was thick layer, measured about (198.5±6.07µm) and composed of circular oriented smooth muscle fibers ( fig.3).…”

“…The [22]. The circular profile predominates in the buffalo [4] and also in the goat ductus deferens. The outer longitudinal layer was distinct and consisted of coarse bundles of SMCs, particularly in the donkey [3].…”

“…[13] used scanning and transmission electron microscopy to study the ampullary region of the dog vas deferens with special reference to epithelial phagocytosis of spermatozoa. Various components of the wall of the ductus deferens were observed to be spe-cificaly arranged, compared with other organs of comparable organization [4,9,10]. Immunohistochemically, some studies were made on the ductus deferens in the donkey and water buffalo bull [3,4].…”
