Some aspects on plastic deformation of copper and copper–titanium carbide powder metallurgy composite preforms during cold upsetting

Abstract: The densification, workability and strain hardening behaviour of sintered copper and Cu-7.5%TiC powder metallurgy (P/M) composite preforms during cold upsetting were investigated by the constitutive model using the experimental data. Cold upsetting of copper and Cu-7.5% TiC composite preforms having different aspect ratios were carried out and the formability behaviour of the preforms under triaxial stress state was determined. The mechanisms most likely involved in the constitutive model, namely, densificatio… Show more

“…Fe-C-Mn composites were synthesized through PM by Selvakumar et al and the higher workability was observed at the initial loading, and furthermore, it tends to be decreased [ 14 ]. Copper composites with 7.5% of titanium carbide in two aspect ratios were synthesized by Narayanasamy et al and found the increased plastic range at the first stage due to the incorporation of TiC [ 15 ]. Hybrid copper composites reinforced with titanium dioxide and graphite were synthesized by Ilayaraja et al and presented the results that the inclusion of reinforcements in matrix enhanced the hardness and strength coefficient of the composites [ 2 ].…”

“…15 Among them, PM technique is more popular due to its high production yield, cost effectiveness and ability to produce shapes with higher accuracy. 16 Schubert et al 17 developed Cu/ SiC composites through PM route and reported that the bonding strength and thermo-physical properties of the composites drastically improved by a vapor deposition molybdenum coating on SiC powders. Pan et al 18 investigated the mechanical and tribological properties of carbon nanotube (CNT) and Al 2 O 3 nanoparticles reinforced Cu matrix composites fabricated by PM technique.…”
