Some Analogs of Chlordiazepoxide

Abstract: Some Analogs of Chlordiazepoxide 63 mixture was then heated under reflux for 2.5 hr., kept 16 hr.; the solid filtered, the filtrate cooled, and extracted with 750 ml. of cold 20% hydrochloric acid. With continued ice-cooling, the acid extract was made alkaline with solid potassium carbonate and the base extracted with ether. Concentration of the dried ether extract and distillation of the residue gave 142.3 g. (81% yield) of the base, b.p. 57-60°( 1 mm.), h«d 1.4773.

“…In accordance with the study of the reaction of simple sulphur or sulphydryl containing compounds with oxaziridines (SLAC~ and WATSON I973), it seems plausible that in the reaction with glutathione the 4,5-bond of n is involved. The latter compound has sedative, muscle-relaxing or anticonvulsive properties (NING and MADAN /976 ) and showed a biological activity approaching that of chlordiazepoxide (BELL et al 1962b). ppm ary support for the study of photochemical processes in vivo, which are shown to be of importance in relation to human health (HENDERSON and JENKS I979).…”
