Somatosensory predictors of response to pregabalin in painful chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy: a randomized, placebo-controlled, crossover study

Abstract: Supplemental Digital Content is Available in the Text. Baseline mechanical pain threshold does not predict analgesic response to pregabalin in painful chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy caused by docetaxel, paclitaxel, or oxaliplatin.

“…On a larger scale, post hoc analysis of clinical trial data revealed that pregabalin had no benefit in patients with HIV neuropathy but provided pain relief in a patient subgroup characterized by severe pinprick hyperalgesia. 32 A more recent study of patients with chemotherapy-induced neuropathy found that mechanical pain thresholds were not predictive of response to pregabalin, though the number of patients exhibiting mechanical hypersensitivity was low, 33 and the former study noted that only those patients with the most severe pinprick hyperalgesia benefited, whereas those with mild/moderate hyperalgesia did not.
