Solving Sudoku game using a hybrid classical-quantum algorithm

Abstract: Sudoku is a fun combinatorial game, based on the Latin square, which has wide applications as being an efficient design in controlling multiple sources of variable nuisance simultaneously. Quantum Sudoku solver uses basics of quantum mechanics such as superposition and entanglement. Using the concept of duality quantum computing, we propose an algorithm which solves a 4 × 4 Sudoku puzzle with a space complexity [O(N 2 (4 + log(N ))] (where N = 4). Our proposed algorithm has a primary aim to provide a theoretic… Show more

“…We are yet to design an alogrithm which can solve NxN sudoku deterministically. In the present work, we propose to solve the simplest 4 x 4 Sudoku (also known as Shi Doku) using quantum computing and implement the concept of duality computing using a probabilistic approach [7]. Sudoku is a puzzle that was introduced over 40 years ago but reached its global popularity around 2005.…”

“…Quantum computers are widely used for modeling quantum systems and solving problems using various algorithms [1]. It has put in motion a large number of applications in various fields of physics [10][11][12]. As mentioned earlier, Feynman was the one who proposed the use of a quantum computer to solve problems in quantum mechanics.…”

“…Q UANTUM computing [1] is a novel technical processing mode for effective computation based on the principle of quantum mechanics.Since the 1990s in which Shor algorithm and Grover algorithm were proposed, the quantum algorithm has been proved to effectively solve the NP problem [2] of computer and overcome the bottleneck caused by traditional computing methods. Due to its inherent characteristics, such as quantum superposition and parallelism, quantum algorithm [3] can greatly improve the speed of large-scale data processing and accomplish tasks that cannot be accomplished by current classical computers.…”
