ions, synthetic dyes, antibiotics, and other substances in groundwater and wastewater discharged from factories have caused serious harm to the environment and human health. Therefore, it is vital to develop efficient water pollution treatment methods.The heavy metal ions discharged from factories into rivers and lakes can cause diffusion and pollution. Highly toxic heavy metal ions are easy to accumulate in organisms because they are not biodegradable. [1] Organic dyes and radioactive pollutants produced in industrial production will diffuse into soil and water resources, endangering the safety of animals, plants and human life. [2] The leakage of antibiotics in the fields of biology and medicine will destroy the balance and stability of the ecosystem. [3] An enormous number of pollutants are persistent and difficult to degrade. Scientists have been committed to developing various technologies and materials for removing pollutants from water environment. Nevertheless, effectively purifying sewage still remains a tough challenge.Various techniques are used for sewage purification to remove pollutants in the environment. Common methods include separation, [4] absorption, [5] photocatalytic degradation, [6] and membrane filtration. [7] However, traditional absorbents and catalysts such as zeolites, activated carbons, organic resins, etc. have poor pollutant removal capabilities. [8] Traditional adsorbents, such as carbons and clay minerals, exhibit weak ionic affinity and low adsorption efficiency for metals. [9] Furthermore, partial catalysts possess inferior charge separation efficiency, recyclability, and chemical stability, which is likely to cause secondary pollution to water sources, and does not meet the requirements of green, energy saving, and renewable in the field of modern environment protection. [10] Therefore, researchers have been trying to exploit an efficient and economical composite material with superb specific surface area, high separation and strong reusability. [11] Metal-organic framework (MOF) is a new type of composite material self-assembled by metal ions or metal clusters and organic linkers. [12] As a novel type porous material, MOF has adjustable pore size, superior specific surface area and excellent porosity, and its performance is more superiority than traditional materials such as zeolite and clay. The synthesis of a terbium-based 2D metal–organic framework (MOF), of formula [Tb(MeCOO)(PhCOO)2] (1), a crystalline material formed by neutral nanosheets held together by Van der Waals interactions, is presented. The material can be easily exfoliated by sonication and deposited onto different substrates. Uniform distributions of Tb-2D MOF flakes onto silicon were obtained by spin-coating. We report the luminescent and magnetic properties of the deposited flakes compared with those of the bulk. Complex 1 is luminescent in the visible and has a sizeable quantum yield of QY = 61% upon excitation at 280 nm. Photoluminescence measurements performed using a micro-Raman set up allowed us to characterize the luminescent spectra of individual flakes on silicon. Magnetization measurements of flakes-on-silicon with the applied magnetic field in-plane and out-of-plane display anisotropy. Ac susceptibility measurements show that 1 in bulk exhibits field-induced slow relaxation of the magnetization through two relaxation paths and the slowest one, with a relaxation time of τlf ≈ 0.5 s, is assigned to a direct process mechanism. The reported exfoliation of lanthanide 2D-MOFs onto substrates is an attractive approach for the development of multifunctional materials and devices for different applications.
