Solvent Stimulation to Restore Productivity of Polymer Pattern Producer Wells - A Case Study

Abstract: The first field scale Polymer flood project in the Middle East region is under operation in an oil field of The Sultanate of Oman since early 2010. The oil field discussed here contains viscous oil (90 cp) was discovered in 1956 and is located in eastern part of South Oman Salt basin. First commercial production started in 1980 from this field. The field has gone through different development phases in its 30 years of history prior starting tertiary recovery phase by polymer flooding. This Polym… Show more

“…Productivity loss during ASP/SP/P flooding can be attributed to the following causes: Despite promising oil recovery from chemical EOR applications in the field, productivity loss is a major issue in most projects (Sharma et al 2013., Hashmi et al 2013, Christopher et al 1988). Well productivity loss not only is associated with SP/ASP flooding, it is also associated with polymer flooding (Hashmi et al 2013, Standnes and Skjevrak, 2014, Al Kalbani et al 2014). In fact, productivity problems are not well documented in the open literature.…”

“…Well stimulation treatments have been optimized using mixtures of xylene, diesel, surfactants, and demulsifiers. Bullhead solvent treatments have been found as efficient as treatments performed with coiled tubing units reducing well interventions costs (Al-Kalbani et al, 2014a). Marmul polymer flood is also reporting challenges in production facilities (i.e.…”
