Solvatochromism of BODIPY-Schiff Dye

Abstract: A boron-dipyrrin chromophore connected with an o-hydroxyaryl aldimine by a diazo bridge (BODIPY-Schiff dye) has been developed. The photophysical properties of the BODIPY-Schiff dye have been investigated with UV, steady-state, and time-resolved fluorimetry. The spectral features have been characterized with respect to density functional theory and time-dependent density functional theory. The conformational analysis of the studied compound has been accomplished both in the ground and excited states. A scheme … Show more

“…The growing popularity of fluorescent dyes rests upon the possibility of chemical modification of both the chromophore core and its substituents, which can manifest in a variety of spectroscopic properties [70][71][72][73][74][75][76][77][78][79][80][81][82][83]. The main objective of fluorescent BODIPY (4,4′-difluoro-4-boron-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacene) dye studies has been to explore the influence of the tautomeric equilibrium sensor on the spectroscopic parameters of the dye [84][85][86][87][88]. Below, we present a summary of our studies on BODIPY dyes with tautomeric sensors.…”

“…Refs. [87,88] present syntheses and studies of the BODIPY dyes with substituents sensitive to protonation The subsequent studies of fluorescent dyes in Refs. [84][85][86][87][88] successfully used the spectral parameters' dependences on the parameters defining the polarity of the environment for the detection and description of processes occurring in the electronic ground and excited states.…”

“…As the Schiff base‐containing compounds possess features such as antibacterial, anti‐viral, anti‐fungal, anti‐oxidant and anti‐cancer, they are used as starting materials for synthesizing multiple drugs. It is widely accepted that compounds consisting of the azomethine group (‐C=N‐) in their structures refer to Schiff base that is generally synthesized via condensing the main amines and active carbonyl groups …”

“…It is widely accepted that compounds consisting of the azomethine group (-C=N-) in their structures refer to Schiff base that is generally synthesized via condensing the main amines and active carbonyl groups. [2][3][4][5] It should, however, be noted that Schiff bases are widely used in different areas. For example, they are utilized to determine the amounts of metals in the dye industry due to their solidity, transparency and color.…”
