Solution-based synthesis routes to (Bi1−xPbx)2Sr2Ca2Cu3O10+δ

Abstract: A comparison of several solution syntheses with a solid-state route to the lead-containing high Tc phase of the B i -S r -C a -C u -0 system has been performed using DSC, TGA, x-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, magnetic ac susceptibility, and critical-current measurements. A novel polymer solution synthesis route is shown to yield an increased percentage of the 2223 high Tc phase when sintering is performed at the low temperature end of this phase's stability range. Under the best preparative conditions g… Show more

“…Bi-2212 + x wt.% Ag materials (x = 0, 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 30 and 40) have been prepared by a sol-gel method via nitrates 11 to assure total cation solution, small particle size and good homogeneity in the mixture. This powder was thermally treated at 750 and 800 • C, for 12 bubble formation on the LFZ process.…”

“…Bi-2212/x wt.%Ag and BSCO/x wt.%Ag (x = 1, 3, 5 and 10) precursors have been prepared from commercial Bi 2 O 3 (Panreac, 98 + %), SrCO 3 (Panreac, 98 + %), CaCO 3 (Panreac, 98.5 + %), CuO (Panreac, 98 + %), Co(NO 3 ) 2 • 6 H 2 O (Aldrich, ≥ 99 %) and Ag (Aldrich, 99.9 + %) powders by a sol-gel method via nitrates [18] to assure total cation solution, small particle size and good homogeneity in the initial mixture. The initial powders were suspended in distilled water, followed by dropwise addition of HNO 3 (Panreac, analysis grade) until a clear blue (for Bi-2212) or pink (for BSCO) solution was obtained.…”

“…These methods do not allow to obtain a good interspersion of the cations and lead to high grain dimensions; the resulting disadvantages are low-quality and poorly reproducible superconducting powders [1]. PACS 01.30.Cc -Conference proceedings.…”
