Soluble TWEAK is markedly elevated in hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis

Abstract: Tumor necrosis factor-like weak inducer of apoptosis (TWEAK) is a newly identified monocyte derived cytokine, which has weak apoptosis inducing function against sensitive tumor cell lines in vitro. Also, TWEAK has been reported to have proangiogenic and proinflammatory activities in vivo. However, its functions in pathological situation remain to be elucidated. Here, we analyzed soluble TWEAK in serum of 24 patients with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) in combination with interferon-c (IFN-c) and kill… Show more

“…An inhouse ELISA confirmed the results (data not shown). In control subjects TWEAK levels were comparable to levels determined with another assay [7]. Interestingly, in the stroke patients TWEAK serum concentrations were significantly higher than in control subjects (Fig.…”

“…Increased TWEAK serum levels in patients with diverse inflammatory diseases have been reported. [26][27][28][29][30][31][32] We demonstrated equally high TWEAK serum levels in healthy subjects, patients with AD, and patients with psoriasis. Considering the multifunctional nature of TWEAK, locally limited TWEAK expression in AD lesional skin prevents systemic TWEAK-related effects.…”

“…Researches have found that multiple inflammatory mediators, including MCP-1 and IL-10, precede infiltration of inflammatory cells and kidney damage. They induced migration of human PBMCs, particularly monocytes/macrophages [9,43,65,66]. MCP-1 is a powerful chemotactic factor of monocytes and activated T cells in the glomerulus when there is renal damage [67].…”
