“…Hence, nine soil samples (one composite sample × three treatments × three replicates) per treatment (F, S and C) were collected, and macro-and micronutrients were analysed. Each soil sample was air-dried and sieved to < 2 mm and was analysed using the following techniques: texture by the Bouyoucos hydrometer method, pH by the potentiometric method (saturated soil paste 1:2.5), electrical conductivity, 25 N by the Kjeldahl procedure 26 and extractable phosphorous. 27 Soil samples (0.5 g dry weight) were prepared for the analysis with acid digestion in 4 mL of HNO 3 , 0.25 mL of H 2 O 2 and 2 mL of HF, as well as by applying the temperature programme in accordance with Milestones' microwave application notes (Milestone Srl, Sorisole, Italy) for microwave digestion rotor technology to determine Ca, Mg, Na and K (atomic emission); Fe, Zn, Cu and Mn (atomic absorption spectroscopy).…”

“…Soil samples collected 12.5 years after the trees were planted were evaluated for total C, organic matter (Nelson & Sommers ), total N (Bremner & Mulvaney ), C:N, soil texture, pH (Peech ), electrical conductivity (Bower & Wilcox ), extractable P (Jackson ), nitrates, and gravels.…”

“…The cation exchange capacity was determined using the sodium acetate method [36]. Other ions, including Cl, Ca, Mg and HCO3, were measured using titration according to the methods illustrated by Bower [37]. Phosphorus was determined using the Olsen method [38], and total Nitrogen was determined with the Kjeldahl Salinity levels were determined according to the salinity threshold described by Maas and Hoffman [27] and the levels of water salinity that are internationally used for durum wheat salt experiments [28,29].…”
