Soluble receptor for advanced glycation end products in late-onset neonatal infection

Abstract: OBJECTIVES: To assess the plasma levels of sRAGE (soluble receptor for advanced glycation end products) in infected and non-infected preterm neonates and to compare their diagnostic values with standard infection biomarkers. BACKGROUND: RAGE activates pathways responsible for acute and chronic infl ammation. The soluble type of this receptor, sRAGE, which acts as a decoy receptor, has been linked to the severity of sepsis and its outcome. METHODS: Prospective clinical study was carried out from January 2011 to… Show more

“…This finding strongly suggests that reduced sRAGE levels enhance the inflammatory response in women with premature labor. Research from other branches of medicine has suggested that low sRAGE concentrations augment inflammation, indicating that sRAGE is an independent risk factor of approaching intensification of the disease [ 39 , 53 55 ]. We previously found that decreased sRAGE levels were an independent predictive parameter of preterm delivery in women with threatened premature labor with intact membranes [ 56 , 57 ].…”

“…The conducting current through a Ni-DNA nanowire may be altered by the interaction with proteins, DNA, RNA and small compounds [50,51] or by modifications, such as methylation and damages [52]. Hence, biosensing systems can be developed by integrating Ni-DNA devices for the detection of substances that can interact with DNA, transcription factors or regulators of genes and molecules that cause DNA modification and damages.…”
