Solitons in the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with vector and axial mesons

Abstract: Abstract. We study the effect of vector and axial isovector mesons in the soliton of the SU(2) NJL-model for static hedgehog configurations and on the chiral circle. The Lagrangian reproduces Sakurai's Universality and implements vector dominance through current-field identities. The parameters of the Lagrangian are fixed by means of a heat-kernel expansion up to second order taking the A-~ mixing into account. For the corresponding set of parameters we find solitons for constituent quark masses between M N265-… Show more

“…For the corresponding self-consistent soliton the valence quark is strongly bound and the baryon number is actually carried by the polarized vacuum, i.e. η val = 0 [209,210]. This feature has been taken as a strong support for Witten's conjecture [50] that in effective meson theories the baryon number current is identical to the topological current, B µ , defined in eq (2.9).…”

“…In fact, several theoretical and numerical investigations have been performed to clarify the role of ρ, ω and A 1 mesons in the solitonic sector , Döring et al, 1992b, 1993, Schüren et al, 1992, 1993, Zückert et al, 1994, Weigel et al, 1995. Unfortunately, no clear conclusion on the formalism and on the effects of the vector mesons on the nucleon observables has been obtained and none of the above approaches is beyond criticism.…”
