The emergence of the smart campus approach for university campuses addresses the digital transformation needs of higher education institutions, driven by the increasing capability and popularity of digital technologies like artificial intelligence and the internet of things. While existing research has laid a foundation for conceptualizing smart campuses and developing implementation frameworks, a significant gap remains in understanding how to assess a university campus’s ‘smartness’ effectively. The lack of a robust assessment framework makes it challenging to gauge the effectiveness of smart campus initiatives and identify areas for improvement. This study aims to bridge this research gap by identifying key indicators for evaluating the ‘smartness’ of university campuses. Using a narrative literature review method, the study comprehensively reviews the recent literature on smart campuses, organizational management, and societal applications, focusing on identifying pertinent indicators. By incorporating insights from different domains, the study presents a holistic understanding of the indicators necessary for assessing the ‘smartness’ of university campuses through the proposed smart campus assessment framework. The framework and the insights generated inform researchers and decision-makers in assessing and monitoring the effectiveness of smart campuses.

In recent years, green manufacturing practices have gained significant attention in academia and industry. The ready-made garments (RMG) industry, the second-top industrial polluter in the world, is incorporating green manufacturing practices to reduce the negative impacts on the environment of the RMG industry and sustainable development for experiencing increased pressures from the stakeholders. The RMG industry in Bangladesh, being the world's secondlargest garment exporter, has become the leading sector in the country's economy. However, the RMG industry is generating several environmental challenges like global warming, CO2 emissions, climate change, etc. Thus, the RMG sector in Bangladesh is adopting green manufacturing practices to save the environment and attain sustainable development. The available literature needs a structured analysis of the issues despite the significance of the green development area. This study aims to represent the framework of green approaches in the RMG sector of Bangladesh and to construct the linkages between green manufacturing tactics and sustainable development of the Apparel industry in the country. This study adopts a systematic literature review to explore green manufacturing strategies such as organic materials, green building, green innovation, green supply chain, social issues, etc., which businesses are integrating for sustainability.

PurposeThe zero-waste lifestyle (ZWL) is considered a reasonable step towards controlling waste generation and minimizing the consequences of human activities on the environment. The main aim of this study is to examine the behavioral antecedents of ZWL.Design/methodology/approachThe study draws on the theoretical underpinnings of the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and the norm activation model (NAM) to develop a conceptual framework to understand the antecedents to ZWL. A cross-sectional survey among 349 randomly-selected consumers provided data analyzed with the partial least square-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) methodology.FindingsThe results demonstrate that personal norms, attitude, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control positively influenced the intention to adopt ZWL. Additionally, the study showed that the awareness of consequences influenced personal norms, attitudes and subjective norms. However, the study identified an intention–behavior gap in adopting ZWL.Originality/valueThis study serves as a pioneering exploration of the behavioral factors that impact the adoption of ZWL. Additionally, the paper endeavors to elucidate the underlying reasons behind the intention–behavior gap within this particular context. Consequently, the study offers substantial theoretical and practical implications aimed at promoting and fostering greater adoption of ZWL practices.
