Solid-state welding of metals with application of high density current pulses

Abstract: The results of solid-state welding of homogeneous and heterogeneous metals with application of high density current pulses are presented. A chart of the current treatment allowing obtaining of the welded joint at its heating in an air atmosphere is proposed. The influence of alternating and unipolar current on the deformation of contact surface microroughnesses in the welding zone is considered. The basic parameters of the pulse current and the specific energy of the treatment of steel and copper samples that … Show more

“…As a novel developing process, pulse current auxiliary technique has aroused the attention of researchers for its property improvement effect, high heating rate and electro-plastic/superplastic effect, and has been applied in many metal processing fields, such as pulse current auxiliary sintering technique, 8 pulse current plasticised technique, 9,10 pulse current resistance heating forming technique [11][12][13] and pulse current heating diffusion welding technique. 14 In the present work, pulse current has been adopted during the heating process of MDF to enhance the heating efficiency and promote the grain refinement. MDF of pulse current heating of Mg-Nd-Zn-Zr biological magnesium alloy is performed on a self-built apparatus, and the bulk billets of magnesium alloy with different grain sizes and mechanical properties are prepared.…”
