Solid-State Polymerization of the Unsymmetrically Substituted Diacetylene TS/FBS: Reaction Intermediates and Colour Zones

Abstract: We report on absorption and fluorescence of single crystals of the unsymmetrically substituted diacetylene TS/FBS during UV-photopolymerization and thermal polymerization. All the observed reaction intermediates have been identified as diradicals, carbenes and stable oligomers. We compare these results with the well-known diacetylene TS6. The quantum yield of the initiation step as well as the activation energy of the following dark reaction have been determined. Well-separated yellow zones are characteristic … Show more

“…Measurements on TS/FBS DA crystals support these results. 51 Resonance Raman spectra exhibit several combination modes. The wavenumbers observed in these investigations 38,62 show that a harmonic approximation of the potential functions for ground and excited electronic states is justified.…”

“…The result for Irrii is more complicated and contains several interference terms (see Eqn (16) at foot of page). By substituting Eqs (14)- (16) into Eqn (2) we obtain I x(3) l2 for the considered ensemble of molecules and hence the intensity of the CARS signal.…”
