“…The highest sensitivity was found for the type B electrode (electrochemically oxidized W rod in 0.1 mol dm À3 H 2 SO 4 ) amounting to À49.5 ± 2.3 mV per pH unit, with R 2 = 0.99, which agrees well with the previous reports on the sensitivity of tungsten based pH sensors in air-saturated buffer solutions [26,30,43]. The electrodes type A (electrochemically polished W rod in 0.1 mol dm À3 KOH) and C (aged W rod in 0.1 mol dm À3 KOH) displayed less satisfactory slope, as well as a scatter of points.…”

“…Commonly reported application of tungsten oxide electrode involves potentiometric technique for pH sensing [26][27][28][29][30]. Different routes of metallic tungsten transformation into a W/WO 3 electrode were reported, such as electrochemical oxidation [26], aging in alkaline solution [27], flame oxidation [29] and annealing in oxygen atmosphere [30]. All these reports agreed that, independently on the preparation procedure, the electrode displayed sub-Nernstian behavior, yet being applicable for reliable pH determination in the range between 2 and 12.…”

“…The stick-shaped samples were dipped into an electrolyte and processed according to the procedure described in Ref. [73]. One problem encountered was that the surface tension of the electrolytes caused the liquid to creep up along the wire so that the NiAl matrix was also wetted; this led to unwanted side effects which influenced the OCP.…”

“…[11][12][13][14] The scale on which pH electrodes can be made has advanced in recent years to the micro 15,16 and nano scale. 17,18 SECM pH probes employing a variety of metal/metal oxides have been reported previously. 15,[19][20][21] Iridium oxide-based pH ultramicroelectrodes have proven particularly popular for spatially resolved pH measurements in SECM, owing to their fast response time, long termstability over a wide range of pHs, temperatures and pressures, all-solid format and capability for miniaturization.…”
