Solid phase extraction and preconcentration of cobalt in mineral waters with PAR-loaded Amberlite XAD-7 and flame atomic absorption spectrometry

Abstract: A simple, sensitive, accurate, and selective method for determination of ultratrace levels of Co is modified. The method is based on preconcentration of Co on the PAR-loaded Amberlite XAD-7 at pH 2.0 ± 0.2 for contact time as low as 45 min. The adsorbed cobalt was eluted with concentrated nitric acid and measured by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. Recoveries up to 90% were achieved. The optimized preconcentration method was applied to cobalt determination in natural mineral waters. The detection limit wa… Show more

“…Amberlite 2 Journal of Chemistry XAD5 resins which are able to adsorb metal complexes have received a great deal of attention because of versatile usage with or without derivatization [19][20][21][22]. In particular, Amberlite XAD-7 resin possessing an intermediate polarity and hydrophilic surface as a highly crosslinked macroreticular acrylic resin (polyacrylic acid ester polymer) has been performed in SPE studies [23][24][25]. Moreover, the surface area and sorption capacity of Amberlite XAD-7 resin which has a surface area of 450 m 2 /g are higher than Amberlite XAD-2 whose surface area is 330 m 2 /g [26].…”

“…Amberlite XAD-4 has been often used as a solid sorbent to prepare a ligand-loaded resin (Dogru, Gul-Guven, and Erdogan 2007). Recently, Amberlite XAD resins have received increased attention as basic matrices for designing new chelating resins (Ince, Kaya, and Yaman 2010).…”

“…Preconcentration is a very important issue for achieving of low limits of detection. [25][26][27][28][29][30][31] Analytical chemists continue to search for samplepreparation procedures that are faster, easier, and less expensive to perform, but provide accurate and precise data with reasonable limits of quantitation. 32 Various methods including liquid-liquid extraction, 33,34 solid phase extraction (SPE), 35,36 cloud point extraction (CPE) 37,38 and solid phase microextraction (SPME) 39,40 have been developed.…”
