Th e ready availability of water resources distinguishes the humid forest of Chapada do Araripe, Ceará State, Brazil, from the semiarid vegetation around it. Th e regional climate demonstrates a marked seasonality of rainfall that aff ects the ecological strategies of the species found there. We studied the bryophytes of the humid forest of Chapada do Araripe, analyzing their diversity, geographic distributions, and ecological and reproductive aspects. Bryophytes were collected from diff erent substrates using the random-walk method. We gathered information concerning the geographic distribution, functional groups (life forms, light tolerance guilds, and habits) and reproductive aspects of each taxon. We found 76 bryophyte species, predominantly mosses (45 species). Ten new occurrences were recorded for Ceará State, including a new taxon for northeastern Brazil. Most species are widely distributed in that country. Desiccation tolerant (turf) and intermediate (mat and weft) life forms predominated, as well as generalist species in terms of their light requirements. Sixty eight percent of the species demonstrated substrate preferences. Monoicous (67 %) sexual systems predominated over dioicous. Th e species displayed functional groups and reproductive aspects tolerant to adverse conditions that maximized the use of available resources and allowed their persistence under the seasonal conditions of the forest.

In this investigation, we formulated the Ecosystem’s Health Provision Spectrum and its centrality indicators, based on the identification of the Ecosystem Health Potentials and Opportunities on the trails of Santo Sepulcro and Riacho do Meio in the Araripe UNESCO Global Geopark (UGG), establishing a baseline for the promotion of green exercise and geotourism in the territory. Based on the network methodology for complex systems, we analyzed the closeness and strength of biotic, abiotic variables, nature phenomena, infrastructure, and sensory experiences in order to determine the configuration of these associations. In the Santo Sepulcro, regarding the association, two negative relations and two positive relations among the variables were highlighted; as for closeness and strength, Aquatic Diversity with the Scientific Values of Geodiversity stood out. In Riacho do Meio, we highlight three positive associations among the variables; as for connectivity, Biodiversity and Meteorological and Climate Exposure presented the highest values and, as for strength, the variables Biodiversity, Route Classification, and Aquatic Diversity were the most prominent. We conclude, based on the presented configuration, that the variables with greater connectivity act as hubs; if these variables are optimized, the network will present an acceptable theoretical configuration. However, neglecting central strength variables can cause the network to collapse.

O desenvolvimento do geoturismo é fundamental para a valoração e proteção da geodiversidade no território do Geopark Araripe. Essa prática de conservação da geodiversidade é consequência do trabalho consciente do desenvolvimento sustentável e de proteção integral, quando atrelado a um valor raro, como também, da conservação do patrimônio geológico, geomorfológico, paleontológico e cultural. O objetivo geral desse trabalho é apresentar algumas das potencialidades geoturísticas dos geossítios do território do Geopark Araripe que se encontram inseridos em Áreas de Conservação de Proteção Integral, as informações resultam de um levantamento bibliográfico, que se encontra em fase inicial. Os geossítios do Geopark Araripe, por sua diversidade de valores, apresentam grande aptidão para o desenvolvimento de atividades geoturísticas e, podem colaborar para a região ser vista como um polo de desenvolvimento cultural e turístico, fundamental para a visibilidade e o cumprimento dos objetivos proposto pela UNESCO para os geoparques.Palavras-chave: Geoturismo; Áreas de proteção; Geopark Araripe. ABSTRACT The development of geotourism is fundamental for the valuation and protection of geodiversity in the territory of the Araripe Geopark. This conservation practice of geodiversity is a consequence of the conscious work of sustainable development and integral protection, when linked to a rare value, as well as conservation of geological, geomorphological, paleontological and cultural heritage. The general objective of this work is to present some of the geoturistic potentialities of geosites of the Araripe Geopark territory that are inserted in Areas of Conservation of Integral Protection, the information results from a bibliographical survey, which is in the initial phase. The Geopark Araripe geosites, because of their diversity of values, present great aptitude for the development of geotourism activities, and can collaborate for the region to be seen as a pole of cultural and tourist development, fundamental for the visibility and fulfillment of the objectives proposed by the UNESCO for geoparks.Keywords: Geotourism; Areas of Conservation; Araripe Geopark.
