Solar/wind pumping system with forecasting in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates

Abstract: This paper demonstrates a water pumping hybrid power system design. The proposed system was designed for water related applications in Sharjah (Latitude 25.29 °N and Longitude 55 °E), United Arab Emirates. The proposed water hybrid system has two primary renewable power systems: solar PV panels and wind turbines. The proposed hybrid system considers the changes in weather conditions (humidity, wind speed, and temperature) since wind speed affects the performance of the wind turbines and solar panels are affect… Show more

“…These authors used a multiphysics model of a hybrid solar panel, a solar concentrator, and a cooling interface with heat recovery capacity that allows for predicting the temperature profile and the cells, allowing to obtain the electrical I/V characteristic of the entire system module. In study [20], the MATLAB Simulink software is used to simulate the performance of a hybrid water system that uses photovoltaic solar panels and wind turbines and that works with the values of the climatic parameters measured over five years. Kumar et al [21] describe the electrical PV output characteristics of photovoltaic systems under different shading conditions using MATLAB simulation, concluding that the output graph of the PV system is affected by shading from clouds, nearby buildings, and trees.…”

“…The electrical representation of the smaller PV unit is shown in Figure 1. In (1) shows Ipv which is the output PV current, that equals the generated current Isc minus diode current and minus shunt resistor Rsh current Ish. From (2), the induced current Isc can be calculated.…”

“…The power quantity is positively proportional to the instantaneous level of the incedent light whereas it is negatively proportional with instantaneous level of PV panel temperature. The instantaneous harvested energy is converted to electrical power fluctuating based on the levels of light intensity and ambient temperature [1]- [3]. In the solar PV applications, to gain higher electrical power by solar energy conversion, many maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms are explained in [4], whereas different algorithms and methods have been proposed and analyzed in [5]- [19].…”

“…There is need for MPPT control for adjusting the speed of rotor to get the highest power from wind turbine [52]- [61]. Because the output voltage is not constant and it become short-circuit because of the switches sometimes, for controlling signal we use capacitor voltage which is constant.…”
