Solanidine isolation from Solanum tuberosum by centrifugal partition chromatography

Abstract: The aim of this investigation was the preparative isolation of solanidine (aglycone of the two main potato glycoalkaloids: α-chaconine and α-solanine) from fresh Solanum tuberosum (cv. Pompadour) material by implementing a new preparation scheme using centrifugal partition chromatography (CPC). A setup for obtaining solanidine by hydrolysis of the glycoalkaloids found in the skin and sprouts of S. tuberosum was first developed. Then its isolation was carried out by the development of CPC conditions: the solven… Show more

“…We have recently shown that CPC is an attractive method to isolate bioactive compounds from Solanum species . Hence, it was decided to implement this technique to the fractionation of S. somalense leaves that are a rich source of caffeic acid derivatives with potential interest.…”

“…Solanidine ( 3 ) and demissidine ( 4 ) are obtained from solanidane ( 1 ), while other SGA, especially those obtained from eggplants and tomatoes, are originally obtained from spirosolane ( 2 ). Solanidine ( 3 ) and demissidine ( 4 ) are two aglycones that come from solanidanes, 38,39 and differ only by the addition of the B-ring double bond between C-5 and C-6 in the former. 36–39 There are four common aglycones, tomatidenol ( 5 ), tomatidine ( 6 ), solasodine ( 7 ), and soladulcidine ( 8 ) coming from the spirosolane ( 2 ) category.…”
