Sol–gel synthesis of palladium nanoparticles supported on reduced graphene oxide: an active electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction

FERESHTEH CHEKIN

Abstract: In this work, the synthesis and characterization of palladium nanoparticle-reduced graphene oxide hybrid (Pd-rGO) material is reported. Techniques of X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscope (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray, FT-IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and cyclic voltammetry were used to characterize the structure and properties of the Pd-rGO. Results demonstrate the effect of Pd on the reduced GO. The average particle size of the Pd nanoparticles supported on rGO obtained from TEM … Show more

“…On the other hand, the onset potential of HER obtained on bio‐rGO/Pd is about −0.20 V, which is comparable with Pd‐rGO composite (−0.20 V), 45 another Pd‐rGO composite (−0.12 V) 46 and rGO‐Fe 48 ‐Pd 52 composite (−0.14 V) 47 reported in the literature.…”

“…The FTIR spectrum ( Fig. S2) of PtNPs-MWCNT-PEDOT:PSS had a peak around 500 cm −1 , which suggests metal-oxygen bonding (Chekin, 2015;Kurt et al, 2016).…”

“…The FT‐IR spectrum of the PdNPs/rGO‐NH 2 material depicts typical bands at 3408, 1620, 1404, and 1040 cm –1 ascribed to the stretching vibrations of OH, C=C, NH, and C–O groups, respectively (Figure c). It should be noted that the bonding between Pd and rGO can take place through hydrogen bonding or van der Waals forces with the –OH, –COOH, –NH, and C=O groups on the functionalized rGO‐NH 2 …”

“…It should be noted that the bonding between Pd and rGO can take place through hydrogen bonding or van der Waals forces with the -OH, -COOH, -NH, and C=O groups on the functionalized rGO-NH 2 . [26,27] Figure 2 displays the XRD patterns of rGO-NH 2 and PdNPs/rGO-NH 2 nanocomposite. The XRD pattern of GO exhibits a distinct and characteristic peak at 2θ = 11.8 (data not shown).…”
