The Diyarbakır Fortress and Hevsel Gardens are an example of combining cultural landscapes and urban green spaces. These types of areas preserve historical and cultural richness while meeting the green and social space needs of modern cities. The aim of this study is to reveal the impact of these two important heritages, which have cultural and historical value, on urban green spaces in the Diyarbakır Sur District. The presence of green areas in the Sur district has been determined in line with this objective. Field observations, Master Development plans, planning annotations, the “management plan”, land registry records, cadastral procedures, urban guidebooks, and digital mapping platforms were employed as methodologies. Inclusive and exclusive quantifications of the designated cultural landscape area were conducted. The study quantitatively reveals the presence of active green areas in two heritage areas intertwined with culture, nature and historical built environment. The fields of heritage and nearby environmental arrangements affect the amount of green space in the Sur district. These landscaping enhancements substantially elevated the per capita functional green space in the district, increasing it from 18.22 square meters to 37.75 square meters. Similarly, they increased the availability of parking spaces, with the per person spacedetermined as 16.64 square meters. This study thus recommends increasing the regulations in buffer zones that reflect the unity of traditional and modern elements, with sustainable approaches that are compatible with ecological balance and planned for the long term

Sakarya'da Sosyal Yaşamın Dönüşümü Transformation of Social Life in Sakarya ÖzAnkara'da Sakarya olarak anılan bölge başkentin kuruluşundan günümüze gelen süreçte sosyal yaşamın merkezi bir alanı olmuş ve bu nedenle hem kentin hem de kentlilerin tarihinde önemli bir yere sahip olmuştur. Çalışma, Sakarya ve yakın çevresindeki sosyal yaşamın tarihsel süreç içindeki dönüşümünü ağırlıklı olarak simgeleşmiş mekânlar üzerinden incelemeyi ve böylece sosyal mekânlar ile sosyal yaşamın dönüşümünü karşılıklı olarak anlamayı amaçlamaktadır. Bu doğrultuda, Sakarya'nın dönüşümü 1920'lerden günümüze gelen süreç içinde Kızılay'ın geçirdiği dönüşümlere paralel olarak belirli tarihsel dönemler içinde ve sosyo-mekânsal bir bakış açısıyla ele alınmıştır. Araştırma için literatür taraması yanında arşiv taraması da yapılmış ve çeşitli dokümanlar, gazete haberleri ve fotoğraflardan yararlanılmıştır. Ayrıca bloglar, forumlar gibi Sakarya ile ilgili deneyim, anı ve anlatılardan yararlanılmış ve betimsel analiz yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Toplumsal süreçlere paralel olarak Sakarya'daki sosyal mekânların ve sosyal hayatın da tarihsel süreç içinde değişip dönüştüğü fakat geçmişten gelen kimi unsurların farklı formlarda da olsa yaşamaya devam ettiği görülmektedir.

The premeditated decisions of urban plans and designs are in a continuous transformation due to the everyday expectancies and needs of users. People mostly intervene in their built environment in differing scales and temporalities which simultaneously transform a designed space and making it closer to a lived space. Therefore, the emergent user spaces and social practices that occur throughout the everyday life dynamics beyond the expectations of an urban plan are significant to develop a human-centered viewpoint for urban planning and design studies. This study aims at unfolding the theoretical and empirical dimensions of the usually overlooked everyday space and practices which are mostly categorized as ordinary or temporary. In this context, a field study in Yüksel Street has been undertaken to to frame the theoretical discussion on the social and spatial production of urban space and everyday life from an urbanism perspective. The site is a vibrant urban space located in the city center of Ankara that is called Kızılay. Yüksel is a well-connected street to the public transportation stops and has a diverse land use. Since it was laid out following the urban plans in the early years of Republic, the street has been facing social, economic and physical alterations bringing dialectics of designed and lived space together. Despite the initial street pattern maintains today in morphological sense, the altering faces of everyday life and its temporal, spatial and societal impact result in a multi-layered urban entity. This study proposes a theoretical approach which is beyond the dualities and conflicts between physical or social space and temporary or permanent urban rhythms to understand the poiesis of everyday life and space. In this context, there are two channels of study. The first one is using both the archival data on the urban infrastructure of memory (the memory of the past), then the second is to unveil the poiesis of everyday life and space through a field research on Yüksel Street that would make the fluid archive of the ordinary practices and aesthetics (memory enacted in the present). The corresponding research methods on the ethnographic and spatial-visual analysis strengthen the unbreakable bond between social and spatial. The outcomes of the study present the role of the everyday user and the changing urban rhythms on the production of space. This connecting approach explores and presents the spatial qualities of public life practices which are usually labeled as left-over spaces and taken for granted for being evasive or temporary. The dialectic of social life and urban design is essential to grasp user preferences and expectancies from their contribute to the humanoriented urbanism studies.
