Soils of the Aversa plain (southern Italy)

Abstract: The Aversa plain is one of the most important agricultural areas of the Campania region, combining the presence of very fertile soils, sites of great archaeological interest and growing residential urbanization. In this paper, the soil map (1:50,000 scale) of the Aversa plain is presented. Three main land systems (coastal, alluvial and foothill plains) characterized by different soil types (Andosols, Phaeozems, Cambisols, Vertisols, Arenosols, Histosols, Luvisols) have been identified. However, Andosols are the… Show more

“…The medium-high availability of P and the good cation exchange capacity (CEC) adequately saturated by exchangeable K revealed a good soil chemical fertility and availability of the major plant nutrients. The good fertility of the volcanic soils of metropolitan area of Naples was also highlighted in other studies [36,37].…”

“…In this volcanic area, there was an accumulation of pyroclastic deposits [35]. Therefore, the soils of this territory are the result of a different extent of andosolization, which produced soils that can be classified as Pachi-Vitric Andosols and Hypereutric Cambisols [36,37].…”

“…Land contaminated with trace elements is a common issue in many parts of the world, which can influence human health and ecosystems [1][2][3][4]. Mapping trace element content in urban and agricultural soils revealed contaminated areas in many regions [3][4][5].…”

“…In the case of parent material of volcanic origin, there is frequently a genesis of Andosols or soils with andic properties. These soils are known by the literature for their excellent properties [41], providing high chemical and physical fertility to ecosystems [42], both in volcanic districts [43,44] and in nonvolcanic mountain landscapes [45,46] but, also, an inside "fragility" to land degradation [47,48] and pollution [49,50].…”
