Abstract:<p>In the terrestrial biosphere, peatlands represent the most important long-term soil carbon storage. They cover only 3% of the land surface but are responsible for about one-third of the total. Ecosystem degradation and changes made in hydrology may affect the biogeochemistry of peatlands and, together with projected global warming, may lead to significant changes in greenhouse gas fluxes. Aeration of peatlands increases organic matter's aerobic decomposition and enhances wetlands&… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
