Soil Carbon Sequestration in Agroforestry Systems as a Mitigation Strategy of Climate Change: A Case Study from Dinajpur, Bangladesh

Abstract: The study was carried out in three different locations in Dinajpur district, Bangladesh,to observe soil carbon sequestration in agroforestry systems as a mitigation strategy for climate change. A total of 108 composite soil samples were collected at 0-30 cm in different study area sites. The total number of samples comprised three agroforestry systems (cropland agroforestry, homestead agroforestry, and orchard agroforestry), where 36 samples were collected from each agroforestry system. Three adjacent soil sam… Show more

“…Greenhouse gas (GHG) increases are widely recognized as the primary driver of climate change on a global scale (Raihan et al, 2019;Jaafar et al, 2020;Raihan et al, 2021b;Raihan and Tuspekova, 2022b). Lessening GHG emissions has risen to the top of the global community's agenda in light of the gravity of the climate change problem and the persistent warming of the Earth's surface (Ali et al, 2022;Raihan and Tuspekova, 2022c;. While numerous different GHGs exist, the vast majority of emissions are due to carbon dioxide (Raihan and Said, 2022;Isfat and Raihan, 2022).…”

“…Ecosystems perform several important functions for humanity, such as food production, climate regulation, and social and cultural support . Humans have altered ecosystems over time to better suit their wants and needs (Ali et al, 2022;Voumik et al, 2023). Both wealthy and developing nations face serious threats from climate change and biodiversity loss today Isfat and Raihan, 2022;Raihan and Himu, 2023).…”
