Software Radar: New Reality

Abstract: New conception of Software Radar (SR) providing high degree of programmable ability is described. The SR architecture is tailored to efficient execution of all traditional radar algorithm with maximum flexibility. History of SR design during the last twenty years analyzed and accompanied by bibliography.Great achievements in SR implementation became after appearance of high performance DSP and FPGA. Attention devoted to methodology of software algorithms verification using half real simulation. Two goal has be… Show more

“…In order to further reduce the system cost and size, and to achieve higher flexibility, the intermediate frequency of 41.4 MHz was obtained with just one frequency conversion in the analog front-end, and was digitalized in terms of the band-pass sampling theory. According to the concept of software radar [ 74 ], the pulse compression and the coherent spectral integration were performed in a laptop instead of the DSP. In addition, a four-channel digital receiver was designed to measure the two-dimension direction of arrival (DOA) of the signals emitted by existing HF broadcasts.…”

“…The expectations of a model are usually a trial and error experience, as stated by (99)(Lieberman 2007, p. 13). This statement is also true in the implementation of the structural design of the system.…”
