Software Defined Monitoring (SDM) for 5G mobile backhaul networks

Abstract: Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) concepts [1], [2]. These concepts can also be used to overcome the limitations of the legacy monitoring systems. In this paper, we highlight the limitations of legacy monitoring systems in present mobile backhual networks. Then, we propose a novel Software Defined Monitoring (SDM) architecture to overcome these limitations in 5G networks. We propose necessary modifications to Software Defined Mobile Network (SDMN) architecture to implement the S… Show more

“…The authors focused on the link utilization problems and multi-commodity flow problems of the network and proposed an efficient i-FPTAS algorithm for 5G mobile traffic engineering. Liyanage et al [60] studied the Software-Defined Monitoring (SDM) on backhaul networks to overcome the limitations of the existing monitoring systems, such as the effect of a single change in the overall system and the increased provisioning and operational costs due to the distributed infrastructure. The authors also discussed the compatibility challenges of the existing monitoring systems as well as CapEx and OpEx costs of network monitoring on the adoption of SDN architectures.…”

“…Thus, by using this knowledge, SDN controllers make the decisions on network reconfiguration according to current conditions. A great work was published also in [41]. In this article, a Software Defined Monitoring (SDM) was proposed, while it highlights how SDMs can be used to solve the current limitations in legacy monitoring systems.…”

“…MMT has also being extended to deal with temporal properties and applied to a collaborative programming project [48]. A recent contribution [25], although not properly a tool, introduces the concept of Software Defined Network and highlights how it can be used to solve the current limitations in legacy monitoring systems.…”
