Soft X‐Ray Emission Spectra of Aluminium and Dysprosium from DyCo₂–DyAl₂ Intermetallic Compounds

Abstract

It is shown that from the changes of the position and intensity of the Lspectra of cobalt and aluminium and the N I~, v spectra of dysprosium in DyCo,-DyAl, alloys the following conclusions result: (1) cobalt is an acceptor of 3d electrons in the investigated compounds in agreement with the results of magnetic measurements, (2) the presence of the cobalt atoms does not change the character of the aluminmm-dysprosium bond, (3) on the high energy side of the Dy NIV, \i spectrum the positive shift towards higher energy of the observed maxima which are connected with 4f -+ 4d transitions suggests a different band structure of DyAI, in comparison to pure Dy.
