Soft X-ray ARPES for three-dimensional crystals in the micrometre region

Abstract: An endstation dedicated to angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) using a soft X-ray microbeam has been developed at the beamline BL25SU of SPring-8. To obtain a high photoemission intensity, this endstation is optimized for measurements under the condition of grazing beam incidence to a sample surface, where the glancing angle is 5° or smaller. A Wolter mirror is used for focusing the soft X-rays. Even at the glancing angle of 5°, the smallest beam spot still having a sufficient photon flux for ARP… Show more

“…Monochromatic Al Kα (1486.7 eV) was used as the incident X-ray. The PEH measurements were performed at the BL25SU in SPring-8. , The base pressure of the measurement chamber was 2.8 × 10 –8 Pa. We used Scienta-Omicron DA30 as an electron analyzer . The electron analyzer had a 2D detector which covered an azimuthal angle of ±15° and a polar angle of ±10°.…”

“…At the downstream end of branch A, angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES) studies with a micron-sized beam in the soft-X-ray region are performed. 19,20) A detection area of diameter around 5-10 μm has been achieved using Walter mirror optics. 19) A potential difficulty when micron-beam ARPES is performed is that the exact position of the observed area may be lost during sample rotation.…”

“…B. of the Supplemental Material [40] and Refs. [44][45][46]57]). We find that for the M-Γ-M binding energy vs crystal momentum (E B vs k) dispersion, three bands become degenerate 240 meV below the Fermi level at the Γ point, which is also reflected in the ab initio calculation [Fig.…”
