The absorption spectrum of evaporated thin films of crystalline and amorphous tellurium was measured in the region between 39 and 250 eV. The electron synchrotron DESY wa8 used as a light source. A sharp doublet around 42 eV and a weak structure on its high energy side associated with transitions from the spin-orbit split 4d core levels to the conduction band were observed and compared with the density of conduction states of crystalline tellurium and with the calculated multiplet splitting of the 4d85p5 configuration of atomic Te. The doublet was also observed in the amorphous phase. At higher energies the absorption spectrum is dominated by a broad, large maximum a t 87 eV. After a minimum a t 165 eV the absorption increases again with increasing photon energy. This behavior is very similar to the absorption spectrum of solid and gaseous xenon. It can be explained by quasi-atomic d-f transitions. Mit dem Elektronensynchrotron DESY als Lichtquelle wurde ewischen 39 und 250 eV die Absorption von Te-Schichten untersucht. Ein scharfes Dublett bei etwa 42 eV mit schwachen hoherenergetischen Strukturen ist mit Anregungen der Te 4d Rumpfelektronen ins Leitungsband verkniipft und wird mit der Leitungsbandzustandsdichte sowie der Multiplettaufspaltung der 4d95p5 Konfiguration des Te-Atoms verglichen. Das Dublett existiert auch in amorphem Te. Zu hoheren Photonenenergien hin hat die Absorption ein Maximum bei 87 eV, gefolgt von einem Minimum bei 165 eV und einem erneuten Anstieg. 2014 On mesure la transmission de couches minces de sélénium et de tellure préparées par évaporation sous vide. La région spectrale étudiée comprend une grande partie du domaine des transitions optiques (4 000 à 700 Å) et les transitions internes de plus faibles énergies (700 à 110 Å). On essaie d'interpréter la forme des courbes d'absorption, dues aux transitions optiques, à l'aide d'un schéma réduit des bandes d'énergie et des résultats obtenus à partir de l'étude des discontinuités d'absorption, attribuées aux transitions internes. Abstract. 2014 The transmission of thin layers of amorphous selenium and tellurium, prepared by vacuum evaporation, was measured. The spectral range studied includes a large part of the region of optical transitions (4 000 to 700 Å) and internal transitions of the lowest energies (700 to 110 Å). An attempt is made to interpret the shape of the absorption curves, dues to optical transitions, with the help of the reduced energy bands diagram and the data, drawn from the study of absorption discontinuities, ascribed to internal transitions.
